Now is the time to return to school. Take advantage during these economic times by enrolling in an online university.

This week in the BigRigg Challenge, I ate very healthily, jogged 3 times, and drank plenty of water.  And the results?

WHAT THE HECK? I really don’t understand how I can have such a big gain, especially after being good with my food intake.  Am I gaining muscle from running?  Could that be the reason?  Feel free to comment below.

Here’s to a more successful next-week for me :)   AND, remember to add your links below!

Stats:

  • Initial Weight: 241.4 lbs
  • Weight after this week’s weigh-in: 241.8 lbs
  • +/- :  +2.8 lbs
  • Total lost: GAINED .4 lbs

  • Definitely muscles.

I've eaten a lot of junk food this week. We wouldn't have any in the house except that we let the girls have some unhealthy snacks like Bugles and cookies as part of potty training. During the week I went from 219.8 to 218.2 and back up to 218.8 this morning. So, still progress.

It's my birthday today, but there won't be cake. After some lean apple-stuffed pork chops we're having a fat-free, sugar-free mint chocolate pudding pie; very low-calorie compared to cake. I did allow myself 70 calories of CoffeMate this morning though. :-)
  • That's a great alternative. I have learned that as long as I can have something sweet, my mouth doesn't care if it's cake or a healthier option like you are having. Happy birthday! Maybe treat yourself to a second helping of CoffeeMate!
  • Facial Hair. It has grown this past week.
  • my goodness. 2.8 pounds of facial hair would be AMAZING. And creepy.

We have to remember that the cold weather causes a primal biological reaction to occur. The body naturally wants to put on an additional layer of fat for protection from the cold. So, during this time of year we have to be extremely diligent. But, even with best efforts, our bodies sometimes get the upper hand.
Don't worry about this! Pick yourself up, dust off, and move forward with this week. Work out at your new club, and maybe go back to the Weight Watcher regime for a week or two. Also remember that your body seems to go in alternate cycles, good week/not so good week. And, figure out where you're taking me to dinner next week ;-)
  • Yeah, you win this one. The battle is not over though! Next week will be my week like BigRaz had where I will lose 8 pounds!

I think what Jason said is correct. Muscle gain. Your mom has a very valid point as well. The body reacts to the climate around us.....as long as ur eating right & exercising ur on the right path. That activity is the type of data a scale can never decipher.....

When you suddenly begin eating a healthier diet and working out more, the lack of calories that your body may be used to causes the body to go into starvation mode, so it causes the metabolism to slow down. Your body's main goal is self preservation, so it does what it needs to survive. Once this (diet and exercise) becomes more commonplace, the body (realizing that it's not going to starve) gives in and the metabolism speeds up. This explains why some people have a weight gain at the beginning of a change to dietary and exercise regimen. You're doing it right Adam! hang in there! PS all you big riggers, for serious, if you're following me on Twitter, hound me about posting my weigh ins! I get busy and it becomes my excuse. Hold me accountable!
  • POST YOUR WEIGH-INS FALLON!!!!!!!!!!!!1!

And, you're right. I am changing up my working out a bit, so maybe that will give my fat burning the kick in the pants that it needs.

Love your videos Adam! I totally agree with everyone. I was into physical conditioning for a couple of years in college & I was told; as a woman, we are to focus on our dress size b/c it's dress size we want to lose not so much as the weight. So it does sound like you are gaining your muscle back! Good job! But I am planning to work harder this week! :)
  • Maybe I will start posting a pant-size-in rather than a weigh in since that might be more accurate. Every week I will put on pants and see if they still fit. Wait, that might be inappropriate. Oh well.
  • I don't think the ladies would mind...but considering your mom is following you on this...*awkward* :P

Maybe after the scale, you measure yourself...but you should really only do that 1x/month to see results.
  • Maybe I will just post a little note about it and keep the camera off!

Just came back from my weigh-in and I lost 6lbs exactly. Went from 296.4 to 290.4. Been eating mostly Vegetable, Legumes & Fruits with a little bit of chicken thrown in for protien. I started this challenge at 308.2 and I am now at 290.4 for a total loss of 17.8lbs. Here is the video:

  • My friend, you are inspiring me beyond words. Do you do any exercise right now, or is it mostly just eating healthy? Great job!

I am the cook of my house so I have been cooking very healthy. Lots of lentils, brown rice, different beans, salads, and roasted veggies all with a side of boneless skinless chicken. The trick is trying to vary the different ways I prepare the chicken so that the fam stays excited to eat the bird over and over. At night I power walk for about 30-45 minutes near my house a few times a week. I started doing crunches this week. Other than that i just eat Protein Shake for breakfast, brown rice or salad for lunch & veggie/chicken dinner. I have tried to change my relationship towards food. I now view it as simply fueling my body not trying to experience bliss thru eating. I look to other areas in my life to fulfill my happiness.

That's absolutely wonderful! Congratulations are in order for you! Keep it up and keep posting. You are a great inspiration.

thx....i keep thinking this is the week that I level off & stay the same weight but for 18+ weeks now I have continually seen a drop of at minimum 3lbs a week! If I keep this trend going I'm going to have to change my screen name to "MediumRaz818". thx again for ur kind words.
  • AdamsMom
We should all take a poll on when you have to "formally" change your name to MediumRaz818. I vote for 275..... :-)

I forgot to post after my Saturday weigh in....I'm up yet again. Just a half a pound, but it adds up. As we all know, this is a reallly bad week to try to lose. So, I'll be happy if I maintain this week. Working out and looking at smaller portions of the "not so healthy" food, and larger portions of the stuff that's good for me.
  • yeah, I think this week should be a freebie for everyone. At least we can enjoy an extra helping of turkey tomorrow then :)
  • AdamsMom
Weighed in this morning, after having a VERY happy time eating over Thanksgiving week. I'm up a total of 1.5 pounds (argh!). I was really tempted to NOT post this week, and just try to get back to some semblance of "normal" next week, but then realized that I would be cheating myself by doing so. Not happy with gaining the weight, but will work HARD this week to get it back off. I'm going to lose this weight, and that's that. So, how did everyone else do?........
  • I'm up, but not enough to buy you dinner! By the way, will you repost this comment on this week's weigh-in post? http://www.adamriggins.com/2009/11/27/bigrigg-c...
